Periodization — a season-long mental training calendar

Audience: coaches (Professional / Fellow tier). Plan a coachee's mental training across the competitive season the way a strength coach periodises physical training.

Periodization splits the season into four phases and lets you schedule what kind of mental work happens in each:

  1. Off-season — foundations, broad skill-building.
  2. Preparation — building the specific skills for the season.
  3. Pre-competition — sharpening, routines, taper.
  4. Competition — maintenance, composure, in-the-moment tools.

Each phase has separate Mental Toughness and Mental Wellness scheduling windows, so you can run MT and MW on different cadences within the same plan.

Mental Wellness scheduling is currently not producing anything

As of 30 July 2026, turning on Mental Wellness scheduling generates an empty MW calendar — no error, no warning, just nothing scheduled. Mental Toughness is unaffected and works normally.

The design is right: MW is meant to be peppered through the season as a continuous PERMA+PLUS rotation, rather than progressed by difficulty the way MT is. The rotation is implemented; it simply never matches any content, so nothing is picked.

What to do meanwhile: plan MT with periodization as normal, and deliver Mental Wellness through a Programme Pack or by assigning directly. Being tracked and fixed — we're confirming the intended MW cadence with Michelle and Edgar before changing the scheduler, so that it's fixed to what you actually want rather than to a guess.

Build a plan

Coach dashboard → Insights → Create Periodization. 1. Pick the coachee. 2. Set the dates for each of the four phases across the season. 3. Set the MT and MW windows within each phase (when that kind of content is scheduled). 4. Save — the plan becomes the calendar you assign against.

Good to know

  • It's a Professional / Fellow feature. If your tier doesn't include it, the entry is locked with an upgrade note (canAccessPeriodization). Ask an admin or upgrade your IAPCF credential.
  • Periodization ≠ Programme Packs. Periodization is the per-athlete, phase-based season calendar; a Programme Pack is a reusable template applied to a cohort. Use periodization for an individual athlete's season; use a pack to roll the same scheduled set out to a whole group.
